Dear reader I can’t sleep so I finished reading “Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister” by Gregory Maguire. I picked up a soft-cover copy of the book from bookoutlet.com (I paid for it myself) because it seemed interesting, my personal review of the book is as follows:

In my personal opinion this book wasn’t at all like what the synopsis on the back made it sound like it would be(I can’t really explain why without giving away plot points that might be big spoilers), I don’t normally enjoy reading books that are pretty much completely character based and have little to no plot aside from that(which is how I feel this book is) however I really felt pulled into caring about pretty all of characters.

I really didn’t like how “Ruth” was treated(although I’m pretty sure that it was normal for the time) and the “disabled person who is a burden on their family” trope.

The last half of book lost me and is when I started to personally really dislike the book (I can’t really explain why without giving away plot points that would give away the whole storyline), the last chapter of the book surprised me and is a big part of the reason why I’m rating this book a 3 out of 10 instead of 2 out 10. Happy reading dear reader 😊.  Please like and share this review if you like it doing so helps me to get considered by publishers and authors for future books and helps others to find my reviews ♡.
